Kenny Smith is an Assistant Teaching Professor at Rowan University's Ric Edelman College of Communication & Creative Arts since 2023. Previously, he taught at Indiana University (2016–2023) and Samford University (2008–2016), where he advised student media outlets like the Samford Crimson and Indiana University Student Television (winner of College Media Association honors). His career includes a decade as a multimedia journalist covering sports and breaking news in the U.S. Southeast.
Research interests span communication technology, sports media, AI in healthcare imaging, and digital media ethics. He teaches courses in Communication Studies, Radio/TV/Film (RTF), and Journalism. Married to Dr. Lauren Smith, an associate professor of sports medicine, he actively engages in academic advising and student media mentorship.
His publications explore AI-driven medical diagnostics (e.g., ovarian cancer ultrasound analysis), social media ethics (catfishing risks), and digital political advertising. He contributes to interdisciplinary research at Rowan's centers focused on innovative media and sports communication.
