Julia Payne is a Lecturer in Inorganic Chemistry at the School of Chemistry, University of St Andrews, with a focus on energy materials. She leads the JLP Group, conducting research at the intersection of the Institute of Engineering and the Centre for Clean Energy Research.
- Education: MChem (University of Warwick, 2007), PhD (Durham University, 2011)
Research Interests:
- Design of energy materials for batteries and photovoltaics
- Use of in-situ and operando techniques to correlate material structure with functional properties
- Characterization via powder diffraction, single crystal diffraction, and X-ray absorption spectroscopy at synchrotron/neutron facilities
Article Trends: Her work emphasizes halide perovskites for energy applications, with recent studies on layered hybrid perovskites, ferroelectric thin films, and lead-free bismuth halides to improve photovoltaic efficiency and sustainability.
Grants:
- Leverhulme Trust (2023–2026): Project on Perovskite dipolaritons for room-temperature quantum applications
Supervision: Mentors PhD candidates including L.-J. Yang, J. Lee, and X. Chen, with a focus on energy materials and structural characterization.
