Dr. Morris’ research critically examines forced migration, border outsourcing, and asylum regimes as mechanisms of resource extraction. Her work analyzes how western governments implement extraterritorialized asylum systems, treating racialized migrants as commodities in a manner akin to mining. She has conducted ethnographic fieldwork in Nauru, Australia, Geneva, Fiji, Guatemala, Jordan, and Lebanon.
Dr. Morris’ recent peer-reviewed article in Migration Politics explores asylum policies in Guatemala’s Northern Petén, reflecting her focus on border economies and humanitarianism. Her research also incorporates creative methodologies, including psychogeographies walking projects, to reimagine inclusive social structures.
