Julia Laskin is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Purdue University, leading the Laskin Lab focused on advanced mass spectrometry applications in materials synthesis, biological imaging, and environmental science. She is affiliated with the Brown Building laboratories (BRWN 5131A office, 5129/5133 student offices, and 5125/5135 labs). Her research emphasizes preparative and analytical mass spectrometry, including ion soft-landing systems and nano-DESI imaging technologies.
Recent achievements include the 2025 ACS Division of Analytical Chemistry Award in Chemical Instrumentation. Her lab actively develops novel instrumentation, such as pneumatically assisted microfluidic probes and low-cost thermoplastic probes for high-resolution imaging. Collaborations span institutions like Argonne National Lab (ANL) and involve interdisciplinary projects in nanocluster synthesis, lipidomics, and electrochemical studies.
Key research interests include isomer-selective lipid imaging, ferromagnetic nanocluster discovery, and surface chemistry applications. Students and postdocs in her group have received awards such as the Eastern Analytical Symposium Undergraduate Award and Women in Science Program travel grants. The lab maintains an active social media presence, engaging with the mass spectrometry community through Bluesky.
Publications highlight advancements in imaging techniques, material characterization, and instrument design. Ongoing projects include correlative imaging, proteoform analysis, and electrochemical energy storage systems enhanced via ion soft-landing methods.
