Julia Krane is an Associate Professor at McGill University's School of Social Work since 1991. Her work focuses on feminist critiques of child protection systems, domestic violence interventions, and the intersection of gender and mothering identities. She holds a PhD from the University of Toronto and has extensive experience in child protection services and private practice.

Her SSHRC-funded research highlights the invisibility of women's mothering experiences in shelters, advocating for fluid power dynamics in feminist practice. She is affiliated with the McGill Domestic Violence Clinic and serves as interim chair of the Women's Studies program.
