Dr. Julia Jeyacheya is a Senior Lecturer at Manchester Business School, specializing in tourism economics and sustainable development. She holds roles as EPIB Senior Tutor and Director of Studies for PhD candidates. Her research focuses on tourism-led inclusive growth, coastal zone management, and political economy dynamics in developing regions. She supervises multiple PhD projects, including studies on financial inclusion in Africa and post-pandemic tourism impacts. Dr. Jeyacheya is affiliated with the Future Economies University Research Centre’s Visitor Economies strand and serves as Unit Leader for courses on international business and environmental economics.
Her work emphasizes small island developing states (SIDS) and coastal communities, analyzing tourism’s role in economic resilience and environmental sustainability. Key research outputs include studies on Malaysia’s post-pandemic tourism recovery, heritage protection in Myanmar, and labor precarity in dive tourism sectors. She contributes to policy debates on equitable tourism practices and has published widely on topics ranging from blue economy frameworks to cultural Olympiad impacts.
Dr. Jeyacheya received the Fellowship of the Royal Geographical Society and actively engages in academic service, including supervising undergraduate/postgraduate research projects.
