Professor Gang Li is a faculty member at the University of Surrey, serving as Professor of Tourism Economics, Associate Head of Surrey Business School (External Engagement), and Director of the Centre for Competitiveness of the Visitor Economy. He holds a BA in Economics (DUFE, China), MSc in Econometrics (DUFE, China), and PhD in Tourism Forecasting (University of Surrey). His research focuses on tourism economics, econometric modeling, tourism competitiveness, and behavioral economics. Notable projects include collaborations with the World Travel and Tourism Council and Pacific Asia Travel Association.
Research Interests: Tourism demand forecasting, economic impacts of visitor economy, quantitative methods in tourism behavior studies, and behavioral economics influencing tourism decisions. Current research emphasizes crisis impacts on tourism (e.g., post-pandemic dark tourism, risk aversion effects). Recent publications address big data applications, mixed-frequency data modeling, and Bayesian forecasting techniques.
Recent articles highlight advancements in forecasting methodologies, pandemic-related tourism dynamics, and consumer behavior in shared accommodation markets. Awards include Fellowship in the International Academy of the Study of Tourism.
