Julia Devine serves as Lecturer of Theatre & English in the Theatre Department at SUNY Plattsburgh's School of Arts & Sciences, leveraging over 20 years of multidisciplinary experience as a performer, director, writer, and nonprofit manager to cultivate student development in communication, leadership, and artistic practice.
Her educational background includes an M.F.A. in Theatre from Harvard University’s Institute for Advanced Theatre Training, completed in association with the American Repertory Theatre and Moscow Art Theatre School.
Devine's creative scholarship centers on theatrical innovation and community integration, exemplified through original multilingual productions like Our Town with Spanish translations by Nilo Cruz, site-specific adaptations such as Topdog/Underdog, and the space-themed performance this is how we walk on the moon. Her work consistently bridges academic instruction with social themes through collaborations with student unions and cultural centers.

Devine mentors students through experiential learning in community-engaged projects while directing significant cultural initiatives including a National Endowment for the Arts Big Read grant for Louise Erdrich’s The Round House. Her co-founding of Outside Art: Plattsburgh Public Art Project has produced 18+ murals, and she provides financial coaching for artists through Minerva Financial Arts.
As co-founder of the interdisciplinary collective Famous Letter Writer, she creates award-winning pop music and experimental cinema, with debut album Warhola featured nationally on NPR and named among Seven Days' top 2020 records.
