Michael Devine

Dr. Michael Devine is a Professor of English and Director of the Center for Interdisciplinary & Area Studies at SUNY Plattsburgh. His work bridges literary studies with pop culture, public humanities, and experimental art forms. He holds a Ph.D. in English Literature from UCLA and has received NEH fellowships and SUNY teaching awards. Key projects include the book Warhol’s Mother’s Pantry, the Warhola album, and the DADAMAMA multimedia project.

Research focuses on interdisciplinary practices, early cinema, and the intersection of art with everyday life. He co-founded the Famous Letter Writer collective, producing experimental music/film works. Leadership roles include directing the Lake Champlain Film Festival and designing public humanities initiatives like Pop for the People.

Notable recognitions include the 2018 SUNY Chancellor’s Teaching Award and a 2023 NYSCA grant for DADAMAMA. His writings appear in American Literature, Adaptation, and Los Angeles Review of Books.
