Julia Dallman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Miami, where she has directed the Zebrafish Facility since 2007. Her research program investigates neurodevelopmental disorders through zebrafish models, with specific focus on autism spectrum disorder mechanisms. She earned her undergraduate degree from Swarthmore College before completing doctoral training at the University of Washington and post-doctoral research at Stony Brook University.
Her laboratory focuses on:
- Genetic impacts on neural circuit development
- Zebrafish models of autism (shank3ab and syngap1ab)
- Gut-brain-microbiome axis dysfunction in neurodevelopmental disorders
- Sensory processing deficits in autism models
Her research has been recognized with multiple awards, including:
- SFARI Pilot Award (2020)
- SFARI Pilot Award (2024)
As director of the University of Miami Zebrafish Facility, she supports zebrafish research infrastructure development while mentoring students and collaborators in model system applications.
