Dr. Julia Dallaway is a Post-Award Member of the Faculty of English at the University of Oxford, specializing in modern and contemporary literature, with expertise in life-writing, the literary essay, and memory studies. She holds a DPhil (2025) from Oxford, supervised by Professor Kate McLoughlin, focusing on how twentieth-century life-writing employs the essay form to explore memory. She teaches undergraduate courses on modern literature and supervises dissertations.
Her education includes a BA in English (First Class Honours, 2019) and an MSc in Literature and Modernity (Distinction, 2021) from Worcester College, Oxford, and the University of Edinburgh, respectively. She has presented research at conferences globally and published in journals like Critical Quarterly and Times Literary Supplement.
Her awards include the Editor’s Choice Award for Creative Nonfiction (2021) and a Pushcart Prize nomination (2022). She also writes creative-critical essays and book reviews, with a focus on feminist theory, Irish literature, and spatial studies.
