Jules Barnes is a Lecturer and BSc Software Engineering Programme Leader within the School of Computer & Engineering Sciences at the University of Chester's Faculty of Science, Business and Enterprise. She has held her lecturer position since September 2021 and became Programme Leader in April 2023.
Her educational background includes a BSc (Hons) in Software Development from Bangor University, an MSc in Digital Marketing from University of Chester, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (completed February 2022-December 2024). She commenced her PhD in Computing at University of Chester in May 2024.
Dr. Barnes' research focuses on UX/UI design, Human-Computer Interaction, and next-generation computing interfaces. Her current PhD research specifically investigates why physical input devices like keyboards and mice remain dominant despite technological advances, exploring ubiquitous computing alternatives. She also examines how IT can address sustainability challenges, environmental research, and future technologies including space travel applications.

Jules teaches multiple undergraduate Software Engineering courses including CO5019 Experiential Learning, CO5029 Software Testing & Deployment, CO5049 Software Management, and CO5227 Web Application Development. She serves as Module Leader for CO5077 Software Testing & Management and Co-Module Leader for several other courses. Additionally, she provides postgraduate supervision for MSc Data Science and MSc Advanced Computer Science dissertation students.
