Julen Castillo Ruiz de Azua is a researcher at CIC energiGUNE in the Cell Prototyping department, specializing in Electrochemical Energy Storage. He is currently pursuing doctoral studies focused on the development and upscaling of solid-state lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries for ambient temperature operation.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering (2018, University of the Basque Country – UPV/EHU)
- Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering (2019, UPV/EHU & Universidad de Cantabria – UC)
His research spans the design of safe electrolytes, catalysts for NOx removal, and solid-state battery systems. Key subfields include lithium-sulfur batteries, gel polymer electrolytes, and polysulfide migration mitigation. He has presented at major conferences, including the International Conference on Lithium-Sulfur Batteries (2021) and Advanced Materials Science (2022).
Scientific honors include a Basque Government pre-doctoral scholarship (2017–2019) and a master’s degree completion grant (2018–2019). His work explores the intersection of chemical engineering, material science, and energy storage innovation.
