Jukka Rantala serves as Professor of History and Social Studies Education at the University of Helsinki's Department of Educational Sciences within the Faculty of Educational Sciences. He leads the Historical and Social Studies Education Research Group and supervises doctoral candidates in the Doctoral Program in School, Education, Society and Culture. His academic profile spans over three decades with 262 research outputs and 12 active or completed research projects.
Rantala's research focuses on historical pedagogy, specifically the teaching of historical thinking and historical text skills, children's historical awareness, and the political attitudes of teachers within Finnish education.
