Juhee Kim is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa's College of Engineering. She joined the faculty in August 2023 after previously serving as a Research Engineer and Postdoctoral Researcher at Georgia Institute of Technology's School of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
- Ph.D., Environmental Science and Ecological Engineering, Korea University, 2016
- M.S., Environmental Science and Ecological Engineering, Korea University, 2010
- B.S., Environmental Science and Ecological Engineering, Korea University, 2008
Dr. Kim's research focuses on environmental chemistry and engineering, with particular expertise in emerging contaminants, contaminant transformation processes, and fate of pollutants in water and soil systems. Her work encompasses wastewater and water treatment technologies, water reuse strategies, and soil remediation techniques. She has made significant contributions to understanding advanced oxidation processes using peracetic acid and metal catalysts for contaminant degradation.
Her publications reveal a strong emphasis on chemical treatment processes for water purification, with particular attention to PFAS compounds and metal contaminants. Over the past six years, her research has evolved from soil remediation studies to more sophisticated water treatment technologies involving oxidation chemistry.
- Future Faculty Fellowship, School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology, 2022
- Research Fellowship, National Research Foundation of Korea, 2016
- ACS ES&T Water Best Paper Award, 2021
Dr. Kim serves on the Editorial Board of Advanced Oxidation Processes for Frontiers in Environmental Chemistry and teaches Environmental Engineering (CEE 330) and Environmental Chemistry (CEE 635) at the University of Hawai'i. Her research program demonstrates strong connections with collaborators at Georgia Tech, particularly with Professor Ching-Hua Huang, indicating an active research network focused on advancing water treatment technologies.
