Dr. Judith Yargawa is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Wolfson Institute of Population Health, Queen Mary University of London. Her research focuses on health services research, maternal and newborn health, quality of care, and global health. Currently, she leads the INTERPRET-X study investigating interpreter services in UK primary care for South Asian communities. Previously, she contributed to large maternal and newborn health projects at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and a Cancer Research UK-funded study on vaping during pregnancy.
Her research interests include improving healthcare access for marginalized populations, enhancing data quality in global health metrics, and understanding maternal and neonatal mortality risks. She has collaborated with international teams across 45+ countries, addressing issues like vulnerable newborn outcomes, gestational age data accuracy, and stigma around maternal morbidity in Northern Nigeria. She holds an Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.
Key contributions include analyzing 165 million global births to identify high-risk newborn subgroups, assessing healthcare professionals' attitudes toward vaping during pregnancy, and evaluating training programs for respectful maternity care in sub-Saharan Africa. Her work bridges epidemiological analysis with qualitative insights to inform policy and practice.
