Professor Judith Mottram is a distinguished academic at the Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts (LICA) within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) at Lancaster University. She holds the rank of Professor and specializes in art, design, and color studies. Her research explores practice-based methodologies in the visual arts, cultural heritage, and the intersection of color in art and design. She has advised PhD students Wenxian Qian and Yagmur Sumer.
Her academic contributions include authoring chapters in authoritative texts like *The Routledge International Handbook of Practice-Based Research* and *A Cultural History of Color*. She has been recognized with the Norway Design Council Design Excellence Award and is an elected Fellow of the Design Research Society. Professor Mottram has led projects such as *Blanket Technologies: Capturing Heritage Textile Techniques* (2019–2021), focusing on textile heritage preservation.
Her work extends to editorial roles in journals like *Journal of the International Colour Association* and *Journal of Textile Design Research and Practice*. She has served on numerous committees, including the AHRC and the 12th International Congress of the International Colour Association (AIC).
