Professor Judith McNamara serves as the Dean of Law and a Professor in the Adelaide Law School at the University of Adelaide. She previously held the position of Head of School at the Queensland University of Technology’s School of Law. A former practicing lawyer admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland and High Court of Australia, she transitioned to academia in 2006. Her research focuses on legal education, design thinking in law, and enhancing student resilience and engagement in legal training.
Professor McNamara specializes in contract law, legal research, and ethics, emphasizing innovative pedagogy and student-centered learning. She has led projects such as an Australian Learning and Teaching Council initiative on capstone experiences in law. As a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, she advocates for responsive and empathetic educational approaches.
Her professional engagements include memberships in the Law Society of South Australia, the Legal Practitioners Education and Admission Council, and the Law Foundation of South Australia. She is actively involved in shaping legal education policies and fostering community-focused legal practice.
