Judith Lind is a Lecturer at Linköping University's Department of Theme (TEMA), specifically within Theme Children (TEMAB). Her academic career spans over two decades, with her position as Universitetslektor (University Lecturer) dating back to 2000. She holds a PhD in Children's Studies from Linköping University (1994) and a Bachelor's degree in History from the same institution.
Her research primarily focuses on the relationship between children, parents, and the welfare state, examining how children's and parents' interests are balanced in welfare and family policies. Dr. Lind investigates how good parenting is defined and suitability as a parent is assessed across various contexts including adoption, assisted reproduction, and digital parenting discussion forums. Her work explores the ethical dilemmas that arise when balancing children's right to protection against parents' right to privacy.
Her recent publications and ongoing research projects reveal a strong focus on contemporary issues such as mental health messaging on social media (particularly regarding teenage boys and girls), foster care recruitment challenges, and the ethical considerations surrounding assisted reproduction. Her work often involves collaboration with social services and fertility clinics, demonstrating practical applications of her research.
- Research on teenage boys' understanding of mental health messages on social media (funded by Forte)
- Apps and downs: Research on teenage girls' understanding of mental health messaging on social media
- SEK 5.8 million research project on foster home recruitment
- Studies on the balance between children's best interests and adults' reproductive rights
As a supervisor, she has guided researchers including Sofia Littmarck (Lecturer) and Johanna Annerbäck (Assistant University Lecturer). Her work has been featured in media outlets including Dagens Nyheter and on the Temapodden podcast where she discussed her research on the right to become a parent.
