Dr Judith Krauss is a Lecturer in the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of York, contributing to the BA in Global Development program and the Interdisciplinary Global Development Centre (IGDC). Her research focuses on conservation justice, decolonial approaches to sustainability, and the political ecology of global value chains. She holds a PhD from the University of Manchester (2013-2016) and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Sheffield’s Institute for Global Sustainable Development (2019-2022).
Her work emphasizes convivial conservation frameworks promoting justice in biodiversity protection and critiques the colonial underpinnings of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Notable collaborations include the CONVIVA project with global partners studying apex predator conservation and the 'Livelihood impacts of coping with Covid-19' study in Mozambique. She also contributed to the Brooks Doctoral College and taught at the Global Development Institute (2016-2018).
Dr Krauss supervises PhD students researching aid agency dynamics, garment industry labor rights, and mining narratives in Chile. She actively engages in public outreach through research storytelling and advocates for flying-less initiatives in academia. Her teaching spans foundational and advanced global development modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
