Dr. Kate Massarella is a Lecturer in the Liberal Arts and Sciences department at Tilburg University's School of Humanities and Digital Sciences. Her research focuses on the political and social dimensions of sustainability, emphasizing biodiversity governance, climate change mitigation, and environmental justice. She integrates political ecology, science and technology studies, and justice theory to explore transformative pathways in conservation. Currently, she coordinates the cross-university minor program in Sustainability: An Interdisciplinary Approach.
Her external roles include Deputy Chair of the Human Wellbeing and Sustainable Livelihoods Thematic Group at the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and Advisor to the French Ministry of Ecology. Recent publications address equitable conservation practices, human-wildlife interactions, and the role of Indigenous communities in environmental governance.
