Prof. Arie Trouwborst is a Full Professor at Tilburg Law School, specializing in Nature Conservation Law. He holds affiliations with North-West University, South Africa, and is a certified wildlife tracker. His research focuses on international, European, and national legal frameworks for biodiversity conservation, restoration, and sustainable use. Key areas include megafauna reintroduction, rewilding, and human-wildlife coexistence.
Education: LLM (2001) and PhD (2006) from Utrecht University. He has advised international entities like the European Commission, IUCN, and wildlife conventions. Awards include NWO’s VENI and VIDI grants.
Teaching spans international and EU environmental law, wildlife law, and administrative environmental law across multiple institutions. Supervised 10 PhD students from diverse regions. Active in editorial roles for journals and expert groups like the IUCN Large Carnivore Initiative.
