Judith Cameron is an Associate Professor at the Australian National University (ANU), holding dual affiliations in the College of Asia and the Pacific (School of Culture History and Language) and the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences (Honorary). Her research focuses on archaeological textiles and prehistoric fiber-based artifacts, particularly in Southeast Asia and South China.
She earned a BA in Prehistory and Anthropology (ANU), an MA in Chinese Art and Archaeology (SOAS), and a PhD (ANU). Her work includes seminal projects like the discovery of a 2004 textile shroud in northern Vietnam and analyses of 7000-year-old weaving tools from Tianluoshan, China.
Research interests span archaeological textiles, cloth production technologies, and prehistoric trade networks. Notable contributions include studies on Neolithic sites like Hoa Loc (Vietnam) and collaborative projects funded by the ARC.
Grants and projects include an ARC Future Fellowship (2013–2016) and leadership in excavations like the Australian/Vietnamese Dong Son boat-burial project. Collaborations span institutions such as the China National Silk Museum and the National Museum of Australia.
