معرفی
Juan Young is an Associate Professor of Human Genetics at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, and Co-Director of the Center for Molecular Genetics at the John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics. His research focuses on epigenetic signatures of genetic diseases, particularly Rett Syndrome and Alzheimer's Disease.
- PhD in Molecular Genetics, University of Buenos Aires (1998)
- MS in Biological Science, University of Buenos Aires (1992)
Dr. Young’s work explores epigenetic mechanisms in neurological disorders, with a focus on DNA methylation dynamics, animal models, and RNA-related functions of MeCP2 in Rett Syndrome. Current projects examine cognitive resilience indices, blood biomarkers for dementia, and population-specific genetic factors in Alzheimer’s disease.
His publications (2025) highlight interdisciplinary research bridging genetics, neuroscience, and epigenetics, with methodologies spanning comparative genomics, longitudinal cohort studies, and stem cell-derived microglia models. Key themes include age-related disease mechanisms and protective genetic loci.
- RSRF Research Award (twice)
- Proyecto Fondecyt Regular (Chile)
- Alan P. Wolffe Memorial Fellowship
- Bernardo A. Houssay Award (Argentina)
- Research Award for Advanced Students (University of Buenos Aires)
As a reviewer for the National Institutes of Health (2018), Dr. Young contributes to advancing understanding of molecular pathways in neurodegenerative diseases.
