Juan Mata

Juan Mata is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Cambridge. His research focuses on understanding how cells remodel gene expression in response to stress, particularly using Schizosaccharomyces pombe (fission yeast) as a model organism. Key research areas include RNA-binding protein functions, translational control under stress, and peptidome analysis. The Mata Group employs techniques such as ribosome profiling to study dynamic changes in translation and RNA stability.

Research objectives include determining RNA-binding proteins' roles in RNA decay, elucidating genome-wide translation control mechanisms, and characterizing the fission yeast peptidome. They also extend these studies to plant pathogens like Zymoseptoria tritici.
