Dr. Juan J. Navarro is a Research Fellow and Group Leader of the Metal-Organic Interfaces (MOIN) Emmy Noether Group at the Interface Science Department of the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society. His research focuses on developing novel metal-organic interfaces using on-surface synthesis for electrochemical energy conversion applications.
Education: Physics (BSc, Autonomous University of Madrid), Molecular Nanoscience (MSc, same institution), PhD in Condensed Matter Physics (Autonomous University of Madrid & IMDEA Nanoscience, 2018). Postdoctoral Research (Fritz Haber Institute, 2018–2023).
Research interests include surface science, electrocatalysis, and the functionalization of metal surfaces with organic molecules to enhance CO₂ reduction efficiency. Techniques employed: UHV-based STM, XPS, HREELS, and operando electrochemical methods.
Awards: Humboldt Research Fellowship (2019), Emmy Noether Programme (2023). Current group members include Mikhail Belozertsev and Dr. Patrick Giesbrecht. Active in developing electrochemical holders for UHV/electrochemistry integration.
