Juan Ignacio Correa

Juan Ignacio Correa is an Affiliated Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition since 2019 and a Doctoral Student at the University of Buenos Aires since 2020. He also serves as a Junior Researcher at the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies of Industrial and Economic Law (CEIDIE) at the Faculty of Law of the University of Buenos Aires since 2016, and has been Editor of the journal 'Temas de Derecho Industrial y Propiedad Intelectual' since 2015.

He has conducted extensive comparative research on intellectual property systems in Latin America and their relationship to economic and social development.

Correa has published extensively on patent systems in Latin America, compulsory licensing frameworks, technology transfer regimes, and the patenting of plants in the Global South. His work often employs comparative legal analysis across multiple jurisdictions, with particular attention to how international agreements like TRIPS affect national policy space in developing countries.

Correa has been actively involved in teaching and presenting his research, having delivered lectures and courses on intellectual property law at various institutions including the University of Buenos Aires, FLACSO, and international forums organized by entities such as the South Centre and the Max Planck Institute.
