João Ramos Torres de Mello Neto

João Ramos Torres de Mello Neto is a Full Professor and researcher at the Institute of Physics of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). He holds a PhD in Physics from the Brazilian Center for Physics Research (CBPF) and has participated in major international collaborations, including the Pierre Auger Observatory, the DUNE experiment at Fermilab, and the GRAND experiment (Giant Radio Array for Neutrino Detection). His research focuses on astroparticle physics, high-energy cosmic rays, dark matter, cosmology, and multimessenger physics.

• Education: PhD in Physics (CBPF)

His research interests span the study of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays, neutrino detection methods, dark matter candidates like WIMPs and dark photons, and the interplay between particle physics and cosmology. He has contributed to experiments such as DAMIC (Dark Matter with CCDs), LHCb at CERN, and D0 at Fermilab, with a focus on CP violation and charm production. His work also bridges science and education through outreach projects like Physics for Poets and theatrical collaborations.

Teaching includes undergraduate courses (e.g., Electromagnetism, Quantum Mechanics, Physics III/IV) and postgraduate courses (e.g., Astroparticle Physics, Classical Electrodynamics). As Vice-Provost for Research and Graduate Studies (since 2023) and former President of ADUFRJ (2021–2023), he plays a key role in academic leadership and graduate education.
