Education
- PhD in Economics, European University Institute, Florence
Research Interests span Labour and Education Economics, Program Evaluation, and Urban/Regional Economics, with methodological expertise in applied econometrics. His work critically examines Portuguese labor market dynamics—including minimum wage impacts on distressed firms—and evaluates regional development initiatives through empirical analysis of cultural events (e.g., Guimarães 2012 European Capital of Culture) and climate adaptation strategies. He investigates education's economic and civic returns, particularly in mass higher education contexts.
Publication Trends (2017-2022) reveal three dominant strands: (1) Labor policy analysis (minimum wage, employment rigidity), (2) Regional development (climate adaptation, urban economics), and (3) Education economics (skill development, civic impacts). His collaborative work with Miguel Portela and Fernando Alexandre consistently employs rigorous econometric methods to address Portuguese policy challenges.
Research Projects demonstrate substantial grant acquisition through Portuguese funding bodies. As lead researcher for the Plano Estratégico para o Sector da Arquitectura (2016-2019) and team member in CLICTOUR (climate-resilient tourism, 2021-2023) and CoaClimateRisk (agricultural adaptation, 2020-2023), he bridges academic research and policy implementation. His S4F project (2018-2022) analyzed future skills in higher education, while É tudo sobre produtividade (2018-2022) addressed Portuguese economic stagnation.
Teaching and Institutional Roles include graduate courses in Applied Econometrics, Labour Economics, and Urban Economics. His leadership extended to Vice-Presidency of EEG (2013-2015), demonstrating institutional commitment beyond research. Current project involvement (e.g., ECO.Fire on wildfire economics) confirms ongoing academic productivity.
