Mr. Jozef Syktus is a Professorial Research Fellow at the School of the Environment, University of Queensland (UQ). He holds a Masters (Coursework) of Climatology from Jagiellonian University. His work focuses on climate modeling, climate change impacts, land-use changes, and extreme weather events, with particular emphasis on Australia and tropical regions.
Research Interests: Climate dynamics, land-cover impacts on regional climates, drought and heatwave analysis, deforestation effects, and hydroclimatic projections. His studies often integrate CMIP6 models, downscaling techniques, and interdisciplinary approaches to address climate adaptation challenges.
Funding & Grants: Current funding includes the High-Resolution climate projection data contribution to CORDEX archive (CSIRO, 2023-2025) and Climate science and climate adapting research (Queensland Government, 2015-2027). Past grants include The capacity of forests to protect regional climate under global warming (ARC Discovery Projects, 2016-2022).
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with global climate modeling groups (e.g., CSIRO Mk3.6 model development) and interdisciplinary teams studying land-use and climate interactions. Active in CORDEX and CMIP6 initiatives for regional climate projections.
