Ralph Trancoso is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the School of the Environment, Faculty of Science, University of Queensland. He specializes in climate change research, hydrology, and environmental science, with a particular focus on climate modeling, extreme weather events, and the impacts of deforestation on regional climate systems.
Dr. Trancoso holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Hydrology from The University of Queensland, a Masters in Research of Remote Sensing from Universidade de Brasília (UnB), a Masters in Research of Hydrology from Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazonia, and a Bachelor (Honours) in Environmental Engineering from Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ). His educational background spans Brazilian institutions and Australian research, reflecting his international expertise in environmental science.
His research interests encompass climate change impacts, hydrological processes, deforestation effects, and climate modeling. Dr. Trancoso has published extensively on topics including precipitation extremes, heatwave vulnerability, carbon density in forests, and rainfall erosivity. His work often employs advanced climate models like CMIP6 and CCAM to analyze current and future climate scenarios, with particular attention to Australian and Amazonian contexts. Recent research shows a strong emphasis on compound extreme events and their societal impacts.
Dr. Trancoso's publication record demonstrates expertise across multiple disciplines, with significant contributions to understanding how deforestation affects regional climate systems in both the Amazon and Borneo regions, as well as climate change impacts on Australian environments. His work bridges fundamental climate science with practical applications for environmental management and policy.
- Current funding from 2015-2027 for "Climate science and climate adapting research" from Queensland Government Department of Energy and Climate
Dr. Trancoso is available for supervision of research students and has been involved in numerous collaborative research projects. His work contributes significantly to understanding climate change impacts and developing adaptation strategies for environmental management, particularly in the context of extreme weather events and their societal consequences.
