Jozef Eduard Masarik

Jozef Eduard Masarik is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Theory and History of Art at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. His work bridges art, design, and performance, focusing on reality fragments and their reinterpretation through theoretical and theatrical frameworks. He holds an MA in Space and Communication from HEAD - Geneva and a BA in Art Design Studio from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, Bratislava, alongside Erasmus+ studies in Industrial Design at Bezalel Academy, Jerusalem.

Research interests: Exploring intersections of neuroscience, philosophy, and art to analyze bodily resistance in digital contexts. Investigates spatial narratives and cultural frameworks through design and performance. His practice emphasizes transforming theoretical concepts into immersive, theatrical experiences.

Notable achievements include residencies in Riga, Kaunas, and Brno, along with scholarships from the Tatra Bank Foundation and Slovak Arts Council. His work has been exhibited globally, including at Divadlo K (Bratislava), Helsinki Photomedia (2024), and the Verbier Art Summit. Key publications include contributions to AION. Journal of Philosophy and Science and his master’s thesis in Issue magazine.

Professional roles include stage design for Company B. Valiente and Divadlo K, where he also serves as dramaturg and performer. He has participated in over 30 international exhibitions, film festivals, and academic conferences since 2017, showcasing installations, videos, and theoretical discussions.
