Joyce Addai-Davis is a Fashion Research Tutor at the Royal College of Art's School of Design, specializing in sustainable fashion and circular design. Her work critiques colonial systems in the fashion industry, focusing on waste colonialism and material minimalism. She holds an MSc in Footwear and Accessories from RCA (2023) and has pioneered projects like the 'Waste Trainer,' exhibited at London's Design Museum. Joyce is also a Visiting Lecturer at Central Saint Martins, Chelsea College of Art, and London College of Fashion, and serves as a Council Member for TEX+ (2025–present).
Her research integrates immersive technologies (VR/AR), AI, and speculative design to reimagine fashion's afterlife. Key works include the 'Yaa Asantewaa Warrior Boot,' inspired by Ghanaian resistance against colonialism, and the documentary Chronicles of a Bola Waste Girl, exploring waste dynamics between the Global North and South. She co-led the Restore: A Note Too Comfortable Future project (2022) and advocates for systemic change through design activism.
Her collaborations include working with Dr. Delfina Fantini van Ditmar and InnovationRCA. She channels the legacy of Yaa Asantewaa, a Ghanaian warrior queen, into her fight against waste colonialism, emphasizing circular design and ethical practices. Joyce has taught couture sewing courses and is a Gravity Sketch Design Ambassador, leveraging VR for footwear innovation.
