Edward Thomasson is a Tutor in the Photography programme at the Royal College of Art's School of Arts & Humanities. His practice-based research explores performance as a method to navigate personal, interpersonal and occupational challenges, with a particular focus on storytelling mechanisms and affective engagement.
- Education: BA Chelsea College of Art and Design, MA Slade School of Fine Art
- Residencies: Chisenhale Gallery CREATE Residency (2012/2014), Nina Stewart Artist Residency (2011-2012)
His work with both trained and untrained performers creates experimental situations where therapeutic games and collective sound construction challenge conventional artistic boundaries. The Health & Care research cluster at RCA provides a framework for his socio-political exploration of health and care systems from human, more-than-human and planetary perspectives.
Key themes in his 15 most recent works include environmental narrative construction (2010-2016), affective audience engagement strategies, and the use of musical theatre language to explore interior/exterior self-dynamics. His collaborative practice with Lucy Beech demonstrates cross-disciplinary experimentation through live collective performance and sound projects.
