Matt Lewis is a sound artist and musician at the Royal College of Art's School of Communication, where he focuses on the relationships between sound and the social. His work explores social-space dynamics through sound and acoustic design, addressing issues such as regeneration, inclusivity, and noise pollution.
His research interests include critical sound practice, spatial audio, and the social implications of sound design. Lewis employs leading-edge technology with participatory strategies to create performances, installations, and interventions that challenge conventional approaches to sound in public spaces. His work often involves community collaboration and examines how sound can confront social issues rather than merely representing them.
His recent projects include "The Branded Soundscape," which investigates the influence of synthetic sounds like Electronic Alert Tones and Audio Branding on human behavior, and "South East Future Sounds," a collaboration with Call & Response and Anderson Acoustics resulting in a national touring immersive sound installation.
