Professor Joy Becker holds a Professorship in Aquatic Animal Health and Production at the University of Sydney's School of Life and Environmental Sciences. She specializes in fish health, aquaculture, and pathogen epidemiology. Her research focuses on disease dynamics in farmed and wild aquatic species, including viral and bacterial infections, environmental stress impacts, and sustainable aquaculture practices.
Dr. Becker earned a BSc in Zoology from the University of Western Ontario and a PhD in Fish Health from the Atlantic Veterinary College. She is affiliated with the Sydney Institute of Agriculture, Sydney Southeast Asia Centre, and the Charles Perkins Centre.
Her work addresses global challenges such as disease outbreaks in aquaculture, biosecurity risks from ornamental fish imports, and climate change effects on aquatic health.
