Josip Lončar is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Radio Communications, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb. He completed his PhD in 2017 with a thesis titled "Application of Active Elements in Artificial Electromagnetic Structures". His research focuses on high-frequency electronics, stability analysis of non-Foster networks, and metasurface design. He teaches courses such as Innovative Electromagnetic Systems, Microwave Electronics, and Applied Electromagnetism.
Collaborations include extended stays at the Radiation Laboratory, University of Michigan (2015–2017), and research institutes in China (2017). He has received the Rector’s Award (2013) and a City of Osijek Scholarship (2009–2013). His projects include sustainable optical communication systems, Non-Foster metasurface networks, and intrabody communication for IoT in healthcare. He leads the Applied Optics Laboratory (AOLAB2) and contributes to interdisciplinary initiatives like the BODYSEN and MMSENSE projects.
