Dr. Josie Parker is a Senior Research Fellow in Biomedical Sciences at Swansea University Medical School, part of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Science. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Genetics (2001) and a PhD in Mycobacterial Cytochrome P450 research (2006) from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. Her research focuses on cytochrome P450 enzymes, antifungal resistance mechanisms, and sterol analysis (GC/MS). She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a STEM Ambassador, contributing to teaching in microbiology, antimicrobial resistance, and pharmacogenomics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Dr. Parker supervises student projects in Microbiology and Biotechnology, including lab-based placements. Her work has led to over 70 publications, with recent focus on Candida species resistance mechanisms, azole antifungals, and CYP51 enzyme inhibition.
Research highlights include identifying mechanisms of amphotericin B resistance in Candida auris and azole resistance in Aspergillus fumigatus. Collaborations span fungal genetics, drug discovery, and clinical mycology. She actively participates in interdisciplinary teams addressing global health challenges in antifungal therapies.
