Joshua Yifan Li is a DPhil Candidate and Non-Stipendiary Lecturer in Clinical Medicine at Lincoln College, University of Oxford. He is concurrently a locum Specialist Registrar in Emergency Medicine at John Radcliffe Hospital. His academic journey includes an MBChB/BMedSci(Hons) degree from the University of Cape Town (2018), where he graduated with First Class Honours, followed by medical internships in South Africa and clinical work in Ireland.
Li's research leverages tissue engineering and CRISPR/Cas-9 gene editing to investigate novel genetic variants in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), under the supervision of Professors Christopher Toepfer and Hugh Watkins. His work spans cardiac physiology, disease modeling, and inherited heart muscle disorders, aiming to characterize 2D and 3D models of iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes.
His publications reflect interdisciplinary expertise, with recent trends in pediatric neurosurgery, oncology, and cardiology. Earlier work focused on infectious diseases (e.g., tuberculous meningitis), while recent articles address surgical outcomes and genetic cardiovascular research.
