Dr Joshua Steer is a RAEng Enterprise Fellow and founder of University spinout Radii Devices, based in the Future Worlds Accelerator space and affiliated with the Bioengineering Sciences Research group at the University of Southampton. His work focuses on developing in-clinic tools to improve prosthetic limb design for people with amputations. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and has expertise in computational modeling, statistical shape modeling, and open-source software development.
Education: BEng in Mechanical Engineering (University of Southampton, 2015). During his studies, he completed a research internship under Dr. Alex Dickinson and Dr. Peter Worsley, leading to the development of the open-source software AmpScan, recognized with the IMechE Vicon prize.
Research Interests: Prosthetics design, finite element analysis, design optimization, and software development for clinical applications. He collaborates with groups such as MDVSN, Research Software Engineers, muVis, and the NGCM group to advance biomechanical simulation and medical device innovation.
Awards: IMechE Vicon Prize (2015). Active in science communication through events like Pint of Science and Smallpeice Trust workshops, and teaching Finite Element Analysis and Python programming to undergraduates.
