Joshua J Meeks, MD, PhD is an Associate Professor of Urology, Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and serves as Section Chief of Robotic Surgery at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center. His clinical expertise centers on bladder cancer diagnosis, treatment, and management.
Dr. Meeks completed his education and training at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, earning both MD and PhD degrees (2003-2005), followed by urology residency (2011) and urologic oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (2012). He holds board certification in Urology from the American Board of Urology.
His research focuses on epigenetic mechanisms and genetic mutations in bladder cancer biology, particularly chromatin remodeling genes and driver mutations. Current work aims to develop novel systemic and intravesical therapies to improve patient survival. Recent publications demonstrate expertise in AI-driven treatment prediction, biomarker development using urine tumor DNA, and advanced drug delivery systems like TAR-200 for sustained gemcitabine release.

Dr. Meeks leads multiple clinical trials including Phase 1/2 studies of erdafitinib intravesical delivery (TAR-210), Jelmyto registries for upper tract urothelial carcinoma, and combination therapies like BCG with ALT-803. He serves on editorial boards for Science Advances and Urologic Oncology, and holds leadership roles in ASCO, SITC, and SouthWest Oncology Group. His industry collaborations span AstraZeneca, Merck, Pfizer, and multiple biotechnology firms focused on bladder cancer therapeutics.
