Joshua Iszatt holds an Honorary Appointment at the UWA Medical School, affiliated with the UWA Centre for Child Health Research (The Kids Research Institute Australia). His postdoctoral research focuses on developing bioinformatics pipelines to ensure phage preparation safety for therapeutic use in Western Australia. His work bridges computational analyses with preclinical discovery, particularly in characterizing antimicrobial peptides (endolysins) from genomic data.
Education:
- Doctor of Philosophy (Bacteriophage therapy for multi-drug resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections) – Curtin University (Awarded June 2025)
- Mbiol (Hons) in Microbiology (Plasmid biology in entero-invasive E. coli) – Nottingham Trent University (Awarded June 2019)
Research Interests: His research spans bacteriophage therapy, antimicrobial resistance, biofilm disruption, and computational methods to accelerate preclinical data generation. He aims to reduce costs and time in lab experiments by leveraging computational approaches.
Grants & Projects:
- Leading on the NHMRC-funded project 'Decoding Host Invasion: Mapping Secondary Metabolite Weaponry of Antifungal-Resistant Scedosporium and Lomentospora' (2025–2028).
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with the UWA Centre for Child Health Research and The Kids Research Institute Australia, focusing on pediatric respiratory infections and phage-based solutions.
