Professor Joshua Davis is an Honorary Fellow at Menzies School of Health Research in the Global and Tropical Health division. He serves as Coordinating Chief Investigator for major research projects including the CAMERA2 study on combination antibiotic therapy for MRSA infection. With over 200 research outputs and an h-index of 42, Professor Davis is a leading researcher in infectious diseases with particular expertise in Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia, antibiotic resistance, and tropical infections.
Professor Davis completed his PhD in 2010 with a thesis titled "Sepsis in tropical Australia: epidemiology, pathophysiology and adjunctive therapy," supervised by Professors Anstey and Cheng. His educational background has positioned him as a leading expert in tropical infectious diseases.
Professor Davis's research focuses primarily on bacterial infections, particularly Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia and optimal antibiotic treatment strategies. His work spans clinical trials, observational studies, and systematic reviews addressing critical questions in antimicrobial therapy. Key areas include:
- Optimal treatment regimens for MRSA and MSSA bacteremia
- Antibiotic stewardship and prescribing practices
- Nephrotoxicity of antibiotics
- Hepatitis B in tropical settings
- Cryptococcal infections in immunocompromised patients
- Prosthetic joint infections
His recent publications demonstrate a strong emphasis on evidence-based approaches to antibiotic therapy, with numerous clinical trials and systematic reviews published in high-impact journals. The CAMERA2 trial, which he co-leads, represents a major contribution to understanding optimal treatment for MRSA bacteremia.
Professor Davis actively supervises postgraduate research students and has served as Principal Investigator on multiple HDR projects, including PhD research on nephrotoxicity of antibiotics in patients with Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia.
His research is supported by significant funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council (Australia), the Ramaciotti Foundation, and the National Medical Research Council (Singapore).
Professor Davis leads the CAMERA2 study group, a collaborative network involving researchers from Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Israel, and the United States, focused on optimizing antibiotic therapy for serious bacterial infections.
