Joshua Holzmann

Joshua Holzmann is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at ArtCenter College of Design, affiliated with the Fine Art department. His practice centers on painting and collage, interrogating the medium’s historical significance through the perspective of an African American male while addressing environmental concerns by repurposing materials from daily consumption.

Education

• BFA from ArtCenter College of Design
• MFA from the University of California, Riverside

Research & Practice

His work bridges traditional painting methodologies with contemporary critiques of materiality, identity, and cultural production. Holzmann’s art explores themes of sustainability, racial subjectivity, and the paradox of object creation in a consumerist society, often using found domestic items as raw materials.
