Joshua Faulkner is a Research Associate Professor at the University of Vermont, serving as Director of the Agricultural and Environmental Testing Lab and Director of the UVM Extension Center for Sustainable Agriculture. He holds affiliations with the Agriculture, Landscape, and Environment department and Civil and Environmental Engineering. His work focuses on applied research and outreach addressing soil, water, and nutrient management in agricultural systems across Vermont and the Northeastern U.S.
Education:
- PhD in Biological and Environmental Engineering, Cornell University
- MS in Biological and Environmental Engineering, Cornell University
- BS in Biological Systems Engineering, Virginia Tech
Research Interests: Climate change impacts on agriculture, water quality mitigation strategies, agricultural wastewater treatment, and sustainable farming resilience. His projects span field-scale hydrology to watershed-level analyses, including work in the Chesapeake Bay and West Africa.
Awards:
- 2011 Outstanding Recent Alumnus from Virginia Tech’s Biological Systems Engineering Department
Outreach & Education: Develops technical assistance programs for farmers, collaborates with NGOs and governmental agencies, and teaches courses such as PSS 269 Soil and Water Pollution and Bioremediation and PSS 385 Hydrology Principles and Practice.
Labs/Teams: Oversees the Agricultural and Environmental Testing Lab, supporting data-driven decision-making in sustainable agriculture practices.
