Joshua E. Palmer

Joshua E. Palmer is an Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. He is a board-certified psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with over 25 years of clinical experience in inpatient, community-based, and integrated care settings.

• Current Practice: P.K. Mullick and Associates (outpatient psychiatric care, esketamine treatments, schizophrenia, mood disorders)
• Integrated Care: Associates in Family Healthcare (addressing physical and mental health needs in underserved populations)

Research Focus: Recovery-oriented care for severe mental illness, treatment-resistant depression, and co-occurring substance use disorders, with emphasis on interventional therapies (esketamine, clozapine, long-acting injectables) and neurobiological models of mental illness.

Teaching Contributions: Dr. Palmer instructs courses spanning psychiatric nursing care, neurobiology, psychopharmacology, diagnosis, and management of acute/chronic psychiatric conditions. He integrates current research on neuromodulation and emerging pharmacologic targets into his teaching, utilizing interactive platforms like Top Hat and Kahoot.

Service Leadership: Coordinates the ABSN program, contributes to the Veterans Affairs Pittsburgh PMHNP Nurse Residency Advisory Board, and serves on the Pennsylvania Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Board of Directors. Professional memberships include APNA, PCNP, and NPASP.
