Josh VanLaecken

Josh VanLaecken is an Assistant Professor of Accounting at the School of Business. He holds a Master of Professional Accountancy (MPA) and a B.S. in Business Administration and Accounting from the University of South Dakota, graduating summa cum laude. VanLaecken maintains an active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license through the South Dakota Board of Accountancy.

Prior to his academic role, VanLaecken gained extensive experience in both public and private accounting sectors. His professional background includes working with diverse clients such as Fortune 500 companies, energy and financial institutions, governments, and nonprofits. In private accounting, he specialized in agricultural manufacturing, managing budgets, ERP implementation, and addressing complex accounting challenges.

VanLaecken's areas of expertise include financial accounting, management accounting, ERP systems implementation, budgeting, and international transfer pricing. His technical skills span inventory valuation, lease analysis, fixed asset impairment, derivatives accounting, and defined benefit pension accounting.

Outside academia, he is married with three children and enjoys family time, fitness, sports, reading, and hands-on projects. He also contributes to non-profit boards and committees.
