Dr. Josh Roberson is an Associate Professor of Art History (Egyptology) at the University of Memphis, affiliated with the Department of Art and Design and the Institute of Egyptian Art and Archaeology. He holds a B.A. from the University of North Texas (1997) and a Ph.D. in Egyptology from the University of Pennsylvania (2007).
His research focuses on ancient Egyptian religion, language, and culture, with fieldwork at sites like Saqqara, Abydos, Karnak Temple, and the Valley of the Kings. Since 2014, he has served as a seal impressions analyst for the German Archaeological Institute’s Lebenswirklichkeiten project at Elephantine Island. His work combines textual analysis, archaeological excavation, and linguistic studies to explore funerary practices, mythology, and cultural systems.
Key publications include The Ancient Egyptian Books of the Earth (2012), The Awakening of Osiris (2013), and a forthcoming lexicon on New Kingdom cryptography. His articles reflect expertise in religious texts, cosmology, and linguistic decipherment.
Roberson’s career emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, with participation in global expeditions and institutional partnerships.
