Josh Pacewicz is an Associate Professor of Sociology and Urban Studies at Brown University, affiliated with the Department of Sociology. His research focuses on American statecraft, subnational governance, federal policy interactions, municipal finance, and political advocacy. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago’s Sociology department (2010), an AM (2005), and a BA from the University of Texas at Austin (2003).
His research interests include political sociology, economic sociology, urban sociology, and qualitative methods. Key works include his book *Partisans and Partners: The Politics of the post-Keynesian Society* (2016), which examines municipal politics in Rust Belt cities, and ongoing projects on municipal finance and policing for profit in Chicago. He has won major awards like the ASA’s Theory, Jane Addams, and Charles Tilly Awards.
Recent work explores state-level policy divergence through a mixed-methods study of bureaucrats and policymakers, arguing career trajectories drive policy implementation differences. He teaches courses on organizational theory, welfare states, qualitative methods, and comparative political sociology.
