Joshua Basseches is the David and Jane Flowerree Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies and Public Policy at Tulane University. His research and teaching focus on energy and climate policy in the U.S. states, particularly the roles of investor-owned utilities, business interests, and advocacy organizations in shaping policy design. He co-chairs the State Politics Working Group of the Climate Social Science Network and has been supported by grants from the American Political Science Association and the Climate Social Science Network.
His work spans empirical and theoretical analyses of state-level climate policies, including structural inequalities affecting climate vulnerability, business power in environmental policy design, and the development of datasets like CHORUS for tracking interest group policy positions. He has published in journals such as Climatic Change and State Politics and Policy Quarterly and contributed commentary to major media outlets.

His forthcoming book Owning The Green Grid (MIT Press) examines partisan and structural drivers of renewable energy policy across U.S. states. Trends in his publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches to climate governance, policy conflict, and innovative methodological frameworks for qualitative case studies.
